Grappling with the Gospel

Our Mission

Grappling with the Gospel is a nonprofit ministry dedicated to advancing the Christian faith through spiritual formation, discipleship, and outreach by using the practice and metaphors of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in biblically centered teaching and community life, with the aim of introducing individuals to JesusChrist and forming a community of faithful disciples.

What We Believe

Grappling with the Gospel affirms the historic Christian faith as expressed in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the witness of the early Christian Church. Our creed is rooted in Scripture and summarized as follows:

  • We believe in one God, the Creator of all things.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human, whose life, teachings, death, and resurrection reveal God’s kingdom and reconcile humanity to God.

  • We believe the Holy Spirit continues the work of Christ by forming disciples, empowering obedience, and guiding the Church in truth and love.

  • We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and authoritative for teaching, correction, and formation in righteousness.

  • We believe the Church is the community of those who follow Jesus in faith, repentance, love of neighbor, and commitment to the expansion of God’s kingdom.

Dr. Nate Daughenbaugh

Nate was born and raised in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. After graduating High School, I enlisted in the Marine Corps and proudly served 4 years. Following my honorable discharge, I attended Colorado State University to study Microbiology and pursue a professional degree to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation from vet school, I was commissioned as a Captain in the US Army Veterinary Corps and served for 3 years. After my second honorable discharge, I returned to my hometown and began practicing at Steamboat Veterinary Hospital where I am currently one of the owners.

I consider myself blessed to live in Steamboat Springs and be a part of this wonderful community. I enjoy spending time with my amazing wife and two beautiful daughters. In my off time, I love fly fishing and training jiu jitsu. I am one of the owners and instructors at Steamboat Springs Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and hold the rank of Black Belt.

Above all of this, I follow Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. I am not perfect, but through him I am saved. I am grateful and humbled that he has called me to be a part of Grappling with the Gospel. May all praise and glory be to God.
